“Being a part of CultureFest for the past few years has been such a rewarding experience for our family. While we, as a family, have always valued and celebrated our Pakistani heritage, this event has been especially transformative for my 9 year old daughter. Before attending the festival, she was often a little shy or hesitant about expressing her heritage. She didn’t want to “stand out” too much, and sometimes felt unsure about embracing her cultural identity. But the festival created a space where she could see other kids her age confidently sharing and celebrating their own traditions. It gave her the opportunity to showcase the stories and values passed down through our family, and to share that with her peers, teachers, and other families in the HPISD community. The warmth, encouragement, and positive energy from everyone involved helped her realize just how beautiful and rich her culture truly is. What’s been most inspiring to see is the way her confidence has blossomed since being a part of the festival. She now talks about her heritage with so much pride, and she feels much more comfortable sharing it with her friends. In fact, she even wore a traditional Pakistani outfit to the Hyer Daddy-Daughter dance! It’s amazing to see how the festival has empowered her to embrace her culture fully and with confidence. We’re so grateful for the impact CultureFest has had on her. It’s been a meaningful way for her to strengthen her connection to her roots and develop a deep sense of pride in who she is. We hope it continues to have this impact on her and all the other students and families who are part of HPISD.”
